Re-imagining how we make sense of the world

Flow: A River of Stories

‘Belonging to place in a changing climate’

‘Writers imagine that they cull stories from the world – it’s actually the other way around – stories cull writers … they insist on being told. The public narrative, the private narrative – they colonise us. They commission us.’ Arundhati Roy, 2002

Flow: A River of Stories is a collection poems, short stories, photography, graphic artistic texts and personal literary essays. This anthology asks a group of Northern Rivers creatives and story tellers living and working on Bundjalung Country to explore their impulse to make sense of life in the midst of a fast-changing climate. In other words, how are their experiences of belonging to place being reshaped by nature? The intention being to give breath to how our bonds to nature affect the perception of ourselves as we face the unfathomable loss of living in the presence of change, our hope for the future and our reflections of the past.

It is in this spirit creatives are invited to submit entries for review from the reading panel and be considered for publication. Submissions need to be in final draft stage and not published elsewhere. Submissions in Indigenous language are encouraged.

The book is intended to create a platform for regional artists to simply contribute their works in their chosen medium to a global narrative. It is hoped that making the book public narrative will engage an audience with an understanding of how nature shapes our belonging.
