This unit gives students the opportunity to explore how composers use various techniques to tell a story. Students will develop an understanding of Joseph Campbell’s ‘the hero’s journey’, considering the mythology of stories, and evaluate the representation of the hero’s journey in a film and other fiction and non-fiction text. These texts will also be explored to challenge and reinforce students’ perceptions of heroes in our society and to consider their value and purpose. Students will create a storyboard of a scene from a film (either a made up scene, or an existing film scene) that shows the arc of the hero.
